Verda "Buddy" Cope Jr.

Verda “Buddy” Cope, Jr. age 81 of Robbins, Tennessee, passed away on Monday, March 5, 2018 at his home with his loving family by his side. Born in Scott County, TN on April 11, 1936 to the late Geneva West and Verda Cope Sr.

Buddy was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Robbins, TN. He was baptized on June 20, 1948, ordained as a deacon on April 2, 1967, and chairman for 18 years. He was also the superintendent of Sunday school for many years. He served 6 years in the Army Reserve, 6 years as a Tennessee highway patrol officer, 16 years as County Judge, 2 years as Circuit Court Clerk, and an insurance agent for 30 years. He was chairman of the Scott County Hospital Board, a member of the Peoples Health Councils Board, and a member of the EOA Board. He was also a Mason for over 50 years.

In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by his mother and father in law: George and Velma Blevins Litton; In-laws: Mary and (Osborne) Litton Duncan, John and Judy Litton, June Litton Sexton; son-in-law Clifford Graham Sexton; nephew William Scott Duncan.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years Anna Jean Litton Cope; daughters: Karen and husband JD Lay of Oneida, TN, Sabra Cope of Robbins, TN and friend Sam Harness of Byrgess Creek, TN, and Keturah Cope of Robbins, TN; Son: Eric and wife Pamela of Oneida, TN: step grandchildren: Dustin Lay and Crystal Lay Hill: Sister: Joyce and husband Ben Bowling of Oneida, TN: in-laws: Jimmy and wife Norina Litton of Oneida, TN, Donald Gordan Sexton of Oneida; as well as 5 great step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, special friends, and relatives.

Friends may visit with the Cope family on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 from 5 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Robbins, TN with Bro. Mike Smithers officiating.  Music will be provided by the First Baptist Church Choir.

Graveside service will be on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Baptist Memorial Cemetery in Robbins, TN. Pallbearers will be: Carl Jones, Chris Henry, Dusty Lewallen, Joey York, Paul Bauswell, Scott Griffith. Honorary Pallbearers will be Commodore Todd, Dwight Human, Harold Young, and Johnny Tate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Robbins, TN.
