Vertia Jean Chambers Jenkins

Mrs. Vertia Jean (Chambers) Jenkins, age 76 of Oneida, passed away Friday, August 25, 2017, at the Physicians Regional Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Born November 8, 1941, she was the daughter of John M. and Ella Lucille Massengale Chamber.  She was preceded in death by her soul-mate and loving husband of 50 years, William C. Jenkins.

Vertia accepted Christ at a very young age and was an active member (over 30 years) of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Disabled Veterans Ladies Auxiliary, Bethlehem Baptist Church Ladies Class, loving Mother, Grandmother and great-grandmother, and most importantly, a Christian example for all who knew and loved her.  She was also a breast cancer survivor and member of the American Cancer Society, and participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

In addition to her husband and parents, Vertia was preceded in death by her son:  Steven Gerald Jenkins;  sisters:  Lula Chambers Thompson, Lillie Ofel Chambers, Goldia Marie Chambers, Clettia Irene Chambers, Dorothy Pearl Chambers Carson, and Sylvia Jewell Chambers; brothers:  Opal Chambers, Milford Chambers, Sinclair E. Chambers, Gerald Dean Chambers, Hurstle Chambers, Sylvester Chambers, Bobby Jo Chambers and James Hoyal Chambers.

She is survived by her children:  Timothy Jenkins (Washington), William Jr. (Bill) and Dara Jenkins (Oneida), James Michael and Kathy Jenkins (Virginia), daughter-in-law Gordana Jenkins; grandchildren:  Casie Lee Jenkins and David Jenkins (Virginia), Anna Jenkins (Florida), Stephanie Ayana Scotti Ries (Germany); special Grandson Tyler Layne (Cookeville), granddaughter Anitra Johnson (Virginia); Chandler Lee (Haleigh) Jenkins (Virginia), Lori Kimble Labbe (Virginia); niece Nell Claborn (Oneida), nephew Butch Chambers (Straight Fork), sister-in-law Rhetta Chambers (Indiana), dear friend Carolyn Clark (Oneida) and very special long-time best friend and like a daughter, Peggy Rhodes Jenkins of Oneida.

Friends may visit with the Jenkins family on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Oneida.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 28, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Bethlehem Baptist Church with Bro. Steve Hodges and Rev. Randall Morris officiating.  Music will be provided by Dallas West.

Burial will follow in the Pine Hill Cemetery.
