Bro. James O. (Jim) Laxton, age 88 of Oneida, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, October 21, 2018 at his home.
Born in Oneida, Tennessee on September 1, 1930, he was the son of the late Elbert Laxton and Mary Etta West Laxton. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He lived in the Oneida area his entire life and was the pastor at Pentecost Baptist Church for 45 years. He loved his Lord, church and family.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Janice Laxton, infant sister Murial Laxton and son David Shane Laxton.
He is survived by his children, Suzie Pike and husband Gerald and Mike Laxton and wife Vonda; sisters, Lilyan Strunk and husband Bill and Barbara Burton and husband Charles; grandchildren, Adam Cooper, Ashley Cooper and wife Stefine, Janna Curtis and husband Philip, Tyrell Laxton and Caleb Laxton and wife Bailey; and one great grandchild, Abigail Cooper.
Friends may visit with the Laxton family on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 6 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 8 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Ashley Cooper and Pastor Steve Lakin officiating. Music will be provided by Kelly and Becky Barnes.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at 10 a.m. at the Smith Family Cemetery with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Adam Cooper, Ashley Cooper, Tyrell Laxton, Caleb Laxton, Philip Curtis and Shane Smith.
