Charles Edward Woods, age 77 of Oneida, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, August, 7, 2018 at the Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Born April 24, 1941 to the late Charles and Bonita Woods, Charlie was a member of the First Baptist Church of Oneida and was a veteran of the United States Marines. He earned his bachelor’s degree from East Tennessee State University and his law degree from the University of Tennessee law school. Mr. Woods was a retired attorney for the US Army Corps of Engineers and during his tenure there, he assisted in purchasing the land for the Big South Fork National River and Recreational Area.
In addition to his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his sister, Jean Carver; and father and mother-in-law, Junior and Eva Litton.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Penny Woods; son, Jeff Woods and wife, Jen; sister, Polly Townsend and husband, Joel; brother, Robert Woods; two grandsons; several nephews, nieces, and many other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the Woods family on Friday, August 10, 2018 from 5 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Phillip Kazee officiating. Music will be provided by the choir of First Baptist Church of Oneida.
Graveside service will be conducted at 12 p.m. on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the Litton Cemetery in Oneida with full military honors provided by American Legion Post #136 of Oneida. Pallbearers will be Richard Sexton, Evan Sexton, Daniel King, Bob West, Wade Young, Adam Anderson, Carter Chambers, and Greg Miller.
