Delore McGhee, age 88 of the Paint Rock Community passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at home with his loving family by his side. He was of the Church of God faith and professed that he was saved. Born in Clinchmore, TN on July 22, 1931, he was the son of the late Mack and Martha Jane (Ward) McGhee. He worked for the city of Oneida until his retirement helping with many major improvements to Oneida City Park. He also was an avid craftsman who loved working with his hands and making many wooden hand-crafted pieces for family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 brothers, Ed, Eulas, Howard, Woodrow, Cal, Benson, Virgil, Odis and Roy; 3 sisters, Ida Heatherly, Hazel Kennedy and Dean Wishoun; mother and father-in-law, Alvis and Bethsheba (Sexton) Yancey; brothers and sisters-in-law, Truie (Allen) Denny, Bertha (Charlie) Thompson, Rosa Mae (Tom) Reid, Clarence (Althea) Yancey, Christene (Columbus) Duncan, Burnell Ellis, Betty Yancey, James, Gurnell (Bud), Leland Yancey; infants, Willie Talmon, Lena Mae and Otis Dee.
Delore is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Wilma (Yancey) McGhee; son, Dennis (Margie) McGhee; daughters, Linda (Billy) Byrge, Charky Orick, all of Helenwood, TN; sister, Verda Thompson of Clinton, TN; brothers-in-law, Herman Yancey and Clifton Ellis; sister-in-law, Debbie Miller; grandchildren, Jason (Traci) Byrge, Matthew (Brandy) Byrge, Adam McGhee, Isaiah Orick and Tara Burchfield of Helenwood, Lance (Denise) McGhee, Patricia (Steve) Kidd of Oneida, TN, Lydia (Marcus) Posey of Robbins, TN; great grandchildren, Lily, Nathaniel, Marissa, Carly Grace, Laileigh, Jake, Tyler, Teegan, Aiden, Dustie, Cameron, Ryker, Silas, Emily, Maddox; many other nieces, nephews and friends and friends from UT Hospice staff.
Friends may visit with the McGhee family on Sunday, January 5, 2020 from 11 a.m. until time of the funeral service at 2 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Byrge and Bro. Sammy Yancey officiating. Music will be provided by the Yancey family.
Committal service will follow in the Peaceful Rose Garden Cemetery in the Paint Rock Community. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason and Matthew Byrge, Lance and Adam McGhee, Isaiah Orick and Marcus Posey. Honorary pallbearers will be: Dennis McGhee, Billy Byrge, Herman Yancey, Vershel Wilson and Delbert Duncan.
