Ophelia Laxton Obituary

Ophelia Jeffers Laxton, age 90 of the Pioneer Community, passed away on Saturday evening, March 24, 2018 at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born August 1, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Bettie Boshears Jeffers. Ophelia was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church where she served as a long term clerk and choir member.

In addition to her parents, Ophelia was preceded in death by her husband for over 50 years: Levi Laxton; two daughters: Sandra Rose and Janet Denise Laxton; father and mother-in-law: Arzo and Rose Laxton; sisters: Elva Ruth (Russell Overstreet) Yaden, Melba Jean Acres and Leah June Jeffers; brothers: Infant Vaughn Jeffers, and Ervin E. (Clolene) Jeffers; grandchildren: Richard Levi Bryant, Amanda Kate Thompson, Jamison and Shea Bryant; and great grandchild: Kennedy Hope Wassom; and sister-in-law: Delvene (Ezra) Botts.

She is survived by her daughters: Marva Lynn (Joe) Robbins, Juanell (LaMance) Byrant, and Kay (Bob) Thompson; grandchildren: Wendy (Chris) Slaven, Amy (Hollin) Carson, Amber (David) Baird, Joel L. Robbins, Latasha (Larry) Wassom, Cade Bryant and fiancée Amy Hecker; great granddaughters: Madison and Shannon Baird and Kenzie Bryant; great grandsons: Logan West, Gage Slaven, Landon Bryant, Ethan and Isaiah Wassom, and Collin Carson; brother: Millard Tim (Mary Lou) Jeffers; sister-in-law: Shelvie (Marvin) Miller; brothers-in-law: Johnny Acres and Don Jeffers, as well her church family; special friends: Jean Reed, caregiver Heather Reed, and special friend and caregiver Donna Byrd; and many other nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Friends may visit with the Laxton family on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Williams and Bro. Kevin Terry officiating. Music will be provided by the Irene Chitwood Singers.

Graveside service will be held on Wednesday March 28, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Laxton Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and grandsons-in-law.
