Esther Huling Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Esther Decker Huling announce her peaceful passing on December 22, 2022, at the age of 90.

Our beloved mother entered into this life on January 14, 1932, in Pulaski County, Kentucky, daughter of the late Roy and Nona Decker.

Esther grew up with 4 brothers: Wesley, Paul, Philemon, and Noah who all preceded her in death. She spoke with great happiness of her childhood, playing with and helping to raise her 3 smaller brothers.

Mother had a strong relationship with the Lord which started at the Cotter Avenue Church of God in Somerset, Kentucky where she played the piano and sang in the Cotter Avenue Church Trio with her father. Her faith continued strong for the rest of her life, and she never left or forgot her teachings from a Godly family.

Esther married her husband Lawrence P. Huling in Somerset, Ky in 1947 just 5 weeks shy of her 16th birthday. In 1956 Lawrence and Esther moved to Madison, Indiana where they raised 6 children, Lawrence Jr., Dave, Mona, Granville, Sabrina and Luwanna. She enjoyed being a wife and homemaker and cherished taking care of her children.

Esther worked at Meyer’s and Son Mfg, Madison, Indiana from 1967 to 1979.

Her family and friends describe her as fun, witty, smart, tough, honest, and with a young heart who loved life and praised God, to name a few. She was known to be talented with her hands creating many beautiful, crocheted pieces and quilts that are lovingly adored by many today.

Esther moved to Tennessee in 1991 after the passing of her husband and took great pride in her Tennessee home and property insisting on mowing her own yard even to this past summer at the age of 90.

She was the proud Momaw of 15 grandchildren:  Lauren Huling, Angela Koontz, Nathan Huling, Lori Palmer, Hope Huling, Endora Feick, Candice Southall, Patia Meismer, Gavin Huling, Khari Fletcher, Kenardo Lee, Jeremy Hatton, Jerrod Judy, Sydney Bright, and Ryder Bright; 16 great grandchildren and 5 great-great grandchildren.

She will be sadly missed by her daughter-in-law Donna Stephen, her sons Dave Huling and Granville Huling (wife Jacqueline) and her daughters Mona Matheney (husband Jeff), Sabrina Huling and Luwanna Huling Bright.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence P. Huling of 43 years who died February 27, 1990, and her oldest son Lawrence Huling Jr. who recently passed October 15, 2022. She is now in heaven united with loved ones.

A private family graveside service was held at the Barnesburg Cemetery in Somerset, KY.
