Phillip Bruce Slaven, age 77 of Oneida, TN passed away on Friday, January 22, 2021 at the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville, TN. Born in Oneida, TN on April 10, 1943, he was the son of the late Wheaton and Pearl Slaven. He was a member of and attended Highpoint Baptist Church and was of the Baptist faith. Bruce loved singing gospel, woodworking and working at church. He helped to start Landmark School, Big Ridge Church and Macedonia Christian Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Leda Slaven; brothers-in-law, Gordon Cecil and Bobby Sandiford.
Bruce is survived by his wife, Cathy K. Slaven; sons, Richard (Labriska), James (Mary), Mark (Sherry), all of Oneida, Tennessee; stepsons, Paul Pierce (Diana) of Deland, Florida and Tony Pierce (Hillary) from Pleasant Valley, Missouri; sisters, Brenda Brenneman (Jeff) of Winfield, Tennessee, Florence Cecil from New Palestine, Indiana, Pat Sandiford from Louisville, Mississippi; 21 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Amona Voiles and Tony Ashcraft; special daughter, Kathy Lleuwen; many other relatives and friends.
Friends may visit with the Slaven family on Thursday, January 28, 2021 from 12 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 1 p.m. in the chapel of West-Murley Funeral Home with Bro. Jamie Byrd officiating. Music will be provided by Brenda Brenneman and Jamie Byrd and family.
Committal service will follow in the West Cemetery in Oneida. Pallbearers will be: Travis Slaven, Corey Slaven, Caleb Slaven, Shane Slaven, James Slaven, Mark Slaven, and Richard Slaven.
With the Health Guidelines in place at this time, we ask that you be mindful of the social distancing measures recommended by the Centers for Disease Control. Masks are required.
