Bobbie L. Lay Obituary

Bobbie L. Lay, age 87 of Huntsville, TN went to see Jesus face to face and received his crown of righteousness on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Oak Ridge Methodist Medical Center. He gave his heart to the Lord and is now part of his Everlasting Church.

He is preceded in death by his: parents, McKinley and Ellen Lay; father and mother-in­ law, Richard and Lana Miller; brothers, William (Clayton) Lay, Lennis (Tobe) Lay, and Roy (Buck) Lay; sisters, Esther Dupps, Uldean Cieri, Beulah Wright and Jama Ray; son-in-law, Jeff Boshears.

He is survived by his: lovely wife of 60 years, Wanda Lay of Huntsville; daughter, Teresa Boshears of Huntsville; daughter, Angie Woods and husband Daniel of Oneida; son, Larry Lay and wife Kim of Clinton; grandsons, Derek Boshears and wife Alichia of Huntsville, Jordan Boshears and wife Cassie of Huntsville, Justin Lowe and wife Beth of Pikeville, KY and Bryan Lowe of Berea, KY; granddaughter, Tasha Neal and husband Dallen of Oneida; great grandsons, Kolton Boshears, Jameson Lowe, and Clay (Tadpole) Neal; great granddaughters, Madisyn Maney and Kylee Martin; sister-in-law, Betty Lay Ayers; best friend, Butch Chambers; and his special cat, Samson. He also leaves many other relatives and close friends.

He was a proud veteran of the US Army and a retired coal miner. He was very active in his community, and he served as a Past Master of the Scott County Masonic Lodge #670 F&AM. He was the President of the Straight Fork Community Center and Outreach Ministries for nearly 20 years. During this time, Bob made sure that the people of the Straight Fork Community and the surrounding communities had the food they needed.

Friends may visit with the Lay family on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 5 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 7 p.m. at the Straight Fork Baptist Church with Bro. Daniel Woods officiating. A Masonic ceremony will be included. Music will be provided by Dallen and Tasha Neal, Bill Miller, and Tommy Byrd.

Committal service will be on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 11 a.m. in the Lay Family Cemetery in the Straight Fork community with full Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #136 of Oneida. Pallbearers will be: Jordan Boshears, Derek Boshears, Anthony Miller, Bill Miller, Blue Day, and Scott Marsh. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Kolton Boshears, Clay Neal, Nick Miller, Timothy (Bumper) Miller, Brent Lowe, Brad Lay, Carter Miller, Dallen Neal, Buster Marlow, Tommy Silcox, Ladd Phillips, Tommy Byrd, Andy Day, Nick Botts, Michael Silcox, and Daniel Cromell.
