Raney Chitwood Obituary

Raney Chitwood, age 91 of Winfield, TN, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2021, at his home.  Born September 12, 1930, in Winfield, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Walter and Flora Baker Chitwood.  He was a United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, having served two military tours. For the first, he was stationed in Tokyo Bay, Japan, and during the second, he was in Seoul, South Korea.  Raney was a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church. He was a dedicated truck driver who enjoyed his time on the road. He later began a career in maintenance at the Scott County Hospital where he worked for many years. Raney was a quiet soul who loved farming and gardening, and spending his time outdoors. 

He is preceded in death by his wife Estelle Sexton Chitwood. In-laws: Clifford and Ollie Sexton. Sisters: Pauline, Evelyn (Lou) Dorsch, Georgia (Ray) Luks, Velma Woods. Brothers: Raymond, Franklin, Ralph (Jualyn). In-laws: Nelle (George) Rawlings, Harry (Daisy) Sexton, Howard (Doris) Sexton, Wib, Laurence, Deacon, Herbert, Dewey Sexton, and Tim Jeffers.

Raney is survived by his children Jane and Roger Galloway, Danny and Debbie Cross. Grandchildren: Nathan and Jane Cross, Jake Cross and Heather Dorsey, Cassie and Todd Johnston (Lucas, Alice, and Henry), Emily and Gregory “Bill” Miller (Luna), Savanna and Jacob Reynolds. Sister-in-law: Mary Lou Jeffers. Other family members: Debbie Davis, Sam James, Fred James, and Becky Galloway. Caregivers: Lola, Pauletta, Whitney, and the Covenant Hospice Team.

Friends may visit with the Chitwood family on Tuesday, October 26, 2021, from 12:00PM until 1:00PM in the Chapel of Jones & Son Funeral Home.

Following visitation, a graveside service will be held at 2:00PM in the Sunbright Cemetery in Sunbright, TN.  Pallbearers will be:  Nathan Cross, Jason Cross, Gregory Miller, Jacob Reynolds, David Marlar, and Skyler Marlar.

The family request that visitors wear a mask.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to either Salvation Army or VFW Post 5669.
