Wilma Jean Newport

Wilma Jean Newport, age 80 of Helenwood, TN passed away on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at the Big South Fork Medical Center in Oneida, TN. Born in Scott County, TN on October 9, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Edna (Neely) Griffith. Jean was loved by so many. She was a hard-working woman and loved her family more than anything. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Anderson Odell Newport; brothers, Vaughn, Floyd, Robert, Clayton, and Willard Griffith; sisters, Hazel Brewster, Mary Estes, Helen McGill, Ruth Talley, Shirley and Juanita Griffith; special niece, Karen Newport; and best friend, Alice Griffith.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Paula Gunter; sons, Tony Harness and Tommy (Kim) Newport; grandkids, Tim Hatler, TJ, Wes, and Linkin Harness, Taya Harness, Andrea Gunter, Jackie Brown, Peyton and Olivia Newport, Taylor Warrior; great grandkids, Elie and Merrinna; special niece, Jennifer Calhoun, Linda, Stanley and Peachie Hutson; special thanks to her nephew, Jerry Newport and many other nieces and nephews that she loved; special friends, Travis Hord, Thelma Frogge, Claude and Dennita Newport, Marsha Long, Hazel Bowling, and Sharon Griffith; many other relatives and friends.

A graveside service was held on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Union Hill Cemetery in Sunbright.
